Help for Haiti

I had my students write a journal about how they could help the people of Haiti after the devastating earthquake. Quickly I knew we needed to do more than just write. We started a fundraiser asking students to bring in donations every morning. At the end of the announcements we played the song Imagine by John Lennon. The support was overwhelming. We reached our goal of $500 in the first day. By the end of the week we were over $2000 and we decided to continue our efforts with a cookie sale. The teachers generously baked dozens of cookies and my students sold them on Tuesday.

Along with the cookie sales and a cheque for $1000 by a family at our school our total became $3411.50

This overwhelming display of caring was heart warming.

Owen is in Love!

When Owen got off the bus this afternoon he was quick to tell me what a great day he had. When I asked why he told me that he knew who he was going to marry. He was very excited to share the news with me that he was going to marry Madison, and that he loved her. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. He told me that Peyton wanted to marry him too, but he told Madison that if she told Petyon he was going to marry him he wouldn’t marry her anymore. He asked how old he had to be to get married and when I asked him how old he thought he had to be, he guessed five. Just a bit too early for this mommy! He then proceeded to tell me about chasing all the girls in his class to kiss them. This completely shocked me because he has told me before about how he has ran away from the girls trying to kiss him. He said that he kissed all the girls in his class on the head. I was on to him... soon I had him admitting that he didn’t kiss all the girls in his class but that he was marrying Madison.

The rest of the way home he sang about how he was going to marry Madison.

He Shoots He Scores!

Owen's Hockey team played at the Bulls game last night. It was a very exciting evening for the boys and us parents too. The team went out on the ice at the beginning of the game to be introduced and stand during the national anthem. Then they watched the game for the first period and a half and went on the ice for the second intermission break to play. Owen was beyond excited. This was his first real hockey game, being out late and SCORING HIS FIRST GOAL!!! Yep, Owen scored against Bully at the game. I can not even begin to tell you how excited this boy was. He kept asking if he really scored, and wanted to watch it over and over again on the dvd. Everywhere he went today he told people he got a goal at the Bulls game!

What a great memory! First real hockey game, and first goal all on the same night!

Northern Lights

At school Owen had the story "Snowy Day" read to him. He was then asked to draw what he liked to do on snowy days and the teacher wrote down his description. Most kids wrote down that they built snowman, forts, etc. Owen wrote down that on snowy days he liked to look for the Northern Lights. His picture is absolutely beautiful and looks just like the northern lights. I was thinking that maybe he had made a connection to the movie "the Polar Express" that he watched over and over again during the holidays.

On Friday, Owen brought in a picture of his fish Bluey to show his teacher and his classmates. His teacher had him draw a picture of his fish and recorded his story to go along with it. Please disregard the bottom portion of his story... I did not let a bird come in the window and eat bluey!!

Happy Birthday Tony!

Yesterday we went to Chuckee Cheese to celebrate Tony's 33rd Birthday. He really loves this place.

The boys really love this place. They have a lot of fun going from game to ride to visiting with Chuckee to eating horrible pizza to picking a prize from all of their hard earned tickets. What more could you really ask for???

Not this..... that's for sure!

We weren't in the car on our way home for more than 2 seconds when this truck missed his turn and slammed right into the brick wall. Next thing we knew we were jumping out of our car, a teenage girl was climbing out of the back window and the rest of the three people were still in the truck. Tony helped to get the front passenger out of the door, meanwhile the driver got himself out and and instantly was trying to get back in to drive away..... DRUNK!!

The bastard was drunk. Four teenagers out driving just after 12noon DRUNK!! You can't even believe the outrage we had for his kid. On two occaissions Tony had to stand and not let him get back into his truck as he knew he was in trouble and wanting to escape. The two girls were in pretty bad shape, cuts and bleeding and a bump the size of a large orange on her forehead. We can only assume it was her head that made the back window smash open.

Once the ambulance arrived, the paramedics weren't too pleased with the kids. We overheard them tell the police officer that they were not cooperative. The police officer placed the driver under arrest for impaired driving immediately.

An hour later, a statement given in the back of the police car by Tony, and the news he would have to attend court did not make for a happy ending to our birthday celebration.

It took every ounce of me to not to loose it on the drunken kids... if it weren't for the fact that I would have burst in to tears the minute I tried to speak, I would have told that kid that he wasn't much younger than the drunk that killed my brother 32 years ago. And I would have told him that he was the luckiest man alive because he didn't kill his friends or any other innocent victims.

As much as Tony doesn't want to waste another minute on this kid, if his testimony helps to convict him, his time is well served!

I'm a Digital Scrapbooker

Yes, it took me a while to figure out that digital scrapbooking is the way to go.... but I eventually came to the conclusion that it fits my schedule a lot better and takes up a lot less room, and hopefully doesn't cost as much.

This is a very basic layout that I did using a tutorial on Jessica Sprague's website. Basically I didn't have to do much other than upload a picture and add some text.

The process is actually very complicated and I am trying to work through the learning process. Thankfully my friend Lisa is willing to help me work through it! But once I get there, I am hoping that I will be a lot more successful in completing and keeping up to date on my scrapbook pages.

Looking foward to 2010 and looking back on the past ten years with many special memories.

This year will mark the tenth year that Tony and I met on July 1st in Ottawa on Canada Day. Fate might seem a little unreal at times... but it certainly fits the bill for this special day.
