Swimming at Grandma and Grandpas!

Happy

Nothing says Summer like a pool party!

It's become tradition to start off summer with a pool party!
The Lees, The Browns and The Skinners
joined us for a great evening of swimming, bbq, campfire, and marshmallows!

Here's looking  forward to a great summer!

Last Day of School!

Oh boy have they grown!!
I am a little sad when I look at these pictures of Griffin... he looks so grown up, he doesn't look like a little boy anymore.  But what these pictures don't show is how much they have learned this year.
Griffin is smart... he can read, his writing has come so far, he has a mathematical mind and can add and subtract in his head and understands multiples.  He is a great drawer, he is scientific, he loves hockey and all sports, he is a good friend and made 3 great friends.  Griffin has a bright bright future!  So proud of you!

Owen has become a handsome young man.  Owen had many tough transitions this year, from starting the year with Mrs. DeBruin, whom he loved, to losing her just after Christmas, to getting a new teacher, to advancing his skills to a difficult grade three year, to preparing for EQAO testing.  Owen was a star, he is concerned and motivated to get good grades, he is a leader in his class, he loves playing with his friends, and maintaining his "fastest runner" title, he played rep hockey, he is a great colourer, and dove into many different chapter books!
We are so proud of you Owen!

Owen's Birthday Party Sleepover Extravaganza!

And the story goes....

It started at 3pm with swimming
then a game of man hunt
 followed by more swimming

pizza and make your own sundaes
Glow in the dark ring toss
(please note it is not dark because it is the longest day of the year,
and all of the fun glow in the dark games had not yet started by 9pm!)

 Owen's birthday cake!

Finally dark and time for sparklers, glow in the dark bracelets,
glow in the dark hunt with flash lights, campfire and marshmallows!

Your thinking to yourself, parents must be picking their kids up by now, but no... I came up with the brilliant idea of having 13 kids sleepover!
At 10pm, Tony and I looked at each other and said... only 12 hours to go!

I was a little worried about bedtime, but it worked out much easier than anticipated.  I brought them all in at 10pm.  I asked them to put on their pjs, set out their sleeping bag, use their technology or watch The Lego movie and lights would be out shortly after that.

Two were asleep before the movie ended, one had gone home sick and the rest went right to sleep as soon as the lights were turned off at 11:45pm.
The boys all slept until 7am....
ate birthday pancakes, took another swim, packed up
and it was time to go home!
First sleepover birthday party success!
I know one very happy boy!
Happy Birthday Owen!

Owen is 9!!

My boy turned 9 on June 21st!
It is hard to believe that he is already 9 and getting older by the day!
Owen had been counting down the days for more than a month,
he was very excited about his birthday.
We weren't up for more than 30 minutes and he was ready
for his gifts and for his special day to begin!

As Owen turns 9, its hard to believe that this little guy has grown so much...

his love of animals
his love of sports and HOCKEY!
gentle and kind with little ones
sharing and caring with friends
funny.... a little too much on the
sarcastic side but funny!
smart
stubborn and strong willed
loving and hug able
very social
  outgoing
leader
strong
athletic

and still my baby boy!
Happy Birthday Owen!

My Boy Griffin!

Happy Father's Day!

A low key day was the perfect fit for this dad!
Some mini putt, a swim, steak bbq dinner and DQ!
Oh, and a new pair of shoes!
Yep, a handsome group of boys!  I'm pretty lucky!

And yes, the mandatory let's make fun of mom and her zumba pose!

Happy Father's Day to my father as well... we will be treating him to the Steak Machine when my parents come up next weekend for big festivities for Owen's birthday!

Soccer, Soccer, Soccer!!

If it's not hockey, it's soccer!  Both the boys love playing soccer and this year Owen has taken on playing Rep soccer.  Interesting thing about rep soccer for
8 year olds.. ...they don't keep score.  They played in a "Festival" a weekend ago, and all teams won!  I'm curious to see what happens to these kids when they grow up and realize that not everything is fair, and that sometimes you lose and sometimes you win.

This year at my school, it has been decided by a few individuals that graduation is going to be very different.  Student academic awards are being handed out at dress rehearsal and "with honours" is not longer being said as students walk across the stage.  I'm just wondering what message this sends to the students that worked hard, were successful and should receive these awards???  I think this is a big mistake!

Griffin took his turn playing goal keeper this past week!
As you can see, he is having a blast!
